The Goodhue County Historic Center: an Oldie but a GoodieThe Goodhue County History Center, chartered in 1869, is one of the most established historical museums in the entire state of Minnesota. After spending the first four decades of its existence in the basement of the Goodhue County Courthouse, the museum was eventually moved to a new venue, the Baptist Old People's Home in Red Wing, Minnesota.The Goodhue County History Center is home to more than 150,000 historical articles, detailing the rich and intense history of Goodhue County. There are articles relating to just about everything regarding Goodhue County history, including Native American artifacts, military articles, old-fashioned clothing, and art that represents the history of the county. This includes but is not limited to artistic photographs and paintings, depicting life in Goodhue County and things relating to it. The Goodhue County History Center is a wonderful place for children and adults were always to become immersed in the history of the place that they call home. On a regular basis, the historical Museum offers educational floors and lectures, as well as invited speakers and film festivals. All through the air, the Goodhue County History Center strides to create a program of education in history befitting Goodhue County natives with the desire to learn and know about the place they call home. Since their inception, the Goodhue County History Center has expanded from a small collection of artifacts to the established Museum presents in the county. After moving to their new venue, preparations were made to expand Museum to accommodate better exhibits, transitioning in the 90s to their actual first paid director of the museum. |
